Collaboration with UB Admissions & Communications
departments results in 3D models of all 3 UB campuses and an app
for iPhone/iPad devices
CCR has been working with the University at Buffalo's Admissions
and Communications departments for several years to develop 3D
models of all three UB Campuses. The original purpose of the
project was to provide prospective students and parents a virtual
tour of UB before they came for an on-site visit. Users of
the web application, UB Explorer, can fly through the virtual
environments either on their own or through pre-set paths.
The pre-set routes include tours through the academic areas and
residential areas and areas of interest for student life, taking
users step-by-step through buildings that fall in these
CCR is currently working on porting these virtual tours into an iOS application for iPhones, iPads, and iPods. The app will be available on the Apple App Store for free and will eventually be rolled into UB's mobile app. Future plans for this involve using the GPS and gyoscope functions of the Apple devices so users can get a very personal experience based on exactly where they are on campus. Stay tuned!
These models are also being used by UB administrators for visualizing future work laid out in the UB 2020 master plan initiative. CCR will work with UB planners and architects as new plans are prepared for expansion of the campuses and incorporate these into the models.
